A lawsuit filed against makers of various flat-screen products used as e-readers may result in readers like the Kindle and the Nook being taken off the shelves. According to reports, CopyTele, Inc. has filed the suit in a Federal District Court against AU Optronics Corp. and E Ink Holdings for patent infringement, anticompetitive acts and other allegations. According to reports, CTI has acquired the legal representation of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, which recently worked with the Department of Justice on antitrust projects. While the charges are aimed at E Ink, CTI is seeking punitive damages against both AU Optronics and E Ink in a case that could possible lead to e-readers being forced off the shelves. According to analysis, that outcome would ultimately spell trouble for Amazon and Barnes & Nobel as well, who sell those e-readers.
