US: Nokia gets approval to buy Alcatel-Lucent

 |  June 17, 2015

The US Justice Department has granted early termination of the antitrust waiting period for the proposed merger of Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent, clearing the way for the companies’ transaction.

“Early termination of the U.S. antitrust waiting period takes us one important step closer to the closing of the pending transaction,” Nokia wrote in a statement.

The DoJ’s blessing comes after the deal has already gained antitrust clearance from Brazil and Serbia.

Nokia said the deal is still subject to approval by Nokia shareholders, Nokia holding over 50 percent of the share capital of Alcatel-Lucent on a fully diluted basis upon completion of the public exchange offer, receipt of other regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.

The company still expects the merger to close in the first half of 2016.
