A group of automobile shippers estimated to control about 70 percent of the global market have been accused of a price-fixing conspiracy in a case filed in a US court. A complaint, filed May 24, accuses the companies of colluding to “fix, raise, maintain and/or stabilize prices” of their services in a scheme that lasted five years or more, say reports. The suit was filed in Florida, though the allegations claim the companies’ collusion involved Europe, Japan and other nations around the globe. The companies, which include Nissan Motor Car Carrier Co. and Nippon Yusen K.K., ship cars to the US from overseas automobile manufacturers. Reports say Japan-based Nippon Yusen dominates the globe’s car-carrying vessel ownership.
