US: Reuters poll suggests Avis/Zipcar merger to pull through

An informal poll of nine antitrust experts taken by Reuters has suggested that while controversial, experts expect the proposed merger between Avis and Zipcar to be approved by authorities. Eight of the nine experts polled expected the approval, though according to reports the merger would be “lamented” by many as the loss of an upstart; Zipcar is widely admired as a young and innovative company with quirky business habits, like nicknaming their vehicles. Avis has proposed to buy Zipcar for $500 million.
