US: Samsung approved to pay $33M cathode ray price-fixing settlement

Samsung has been approved by a federal judge to pay a $33 million settlement to end a lawsuit against the South Korean firm for allegations of cathode ray tube price-fixing.

The offer was cleared by US District Judge Samuel Conti, marking Samsung as the eighth company in the class action suit to settle. Hitachi and LG Electronics are among those that agreed to settlement deals.

The lawsuit accused top tech firms, including Sharp and Toshiba, of manipulating CRT prices; the parts are found in now uncommon television and computer monitors.
