According to a press release, Sprint Nextel has received an official notification of DISH network’s intention to acquire 50 percent of Sprint stock. The move officiates a merger that has been discussed for several weeks; Sprint will now have to file with the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to provide details of the company. Sprint established a committee last month to evaluate the proposed deal, though has yet to rule on whether DISH’s offer would beat out the company’s current agreement with Softbank Corp.
