As rumors fly that Sprint is planning an acquisition bid for T-Mobile – a move that would reduce the number of wireless competitors from four to three – the latest reports say that Dish Network may consider its own buyout bid for the wireless firm.
The bid would be the second attempt by Dish to acquire a major wireless company, reports say, and could spark a new bidding war with Softbank; Dish clashed with Japan-based Softbank earlier this year in efforts to acquire Sprint, which is now owned by Softbank.
Now, anonymous sources say Dish is in talks with T-Mobile majority owner Deutsche Telekom about a possible deal as the satellite television company looks to expand beyond the TV market.
Dish, T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom did not comment on the matter, reports say.
