US: The e-books trial’s latest – war of words with e-mail evidence

Among one of the most discussed pieces of evidence the US Department of Justice was rumored to be introducing was an email by Apple Inc founder Steve Jobs, which allegedly showed Apple was looking to have Amazon use the agency model to sell e-books. In a recent development, while the DOJ has, in fact, issued that email as evidence, Apple has defended itself by explaining the email was merely a draft, and was never sent; further, Apple introduced an email of its own into evidence, one actually sent by Jobs and one without any indication Apple was looking to force the agency model over the wholesale model on e-book retailers. The DOJ continues to argue that Apple colluded to fix e-book prices.
