US: Tokyo Electron acquisition gets stern look from DOJ

The US Department of Justice has issued a second request for more information to semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials regarding its buyout of Tokyo Electron, a deal proposed for $9.4 billion.

    The companies first announced the acquisition plans last September. Reports say the DOJ is looking into the matter as such a buyout would merge two of the top-three semiconductor equipment firms.

    Applied Materials said Friday it would cooperate with the DOJ’s demands during its merger review.
