Video streaming company Netflix has announced it reached a deal with telco giant Verizon that directly connects Netflix to the Internet service provider to offer higher quality streaming videos to viewers.
While financial details of the deal were not disclosed, reports say the agreement likely parallels the one Netflix made with Comcast last February.
Netflix’s interconnection agreements add fuel to the debate about so-called Net neutrality. The Federal Communications Commission’s recently revealed proposals on the matter appeared to show the regulator was backing down from enforcing such Net neutrality, and will instead allow content providers to pay service providers for priority content delivery.
According to reports, Netflix may also be in talks for yet another agreement with AT&T.
