Thomas Moriarty, previously a top lawyer at CVS Health Corp., has been appointed as the general counsel for Albertson’s, as announced by the company on Friday.
Moriarty has been appointed as the new legal head of Albertson’s, taking over from Juliette Pryor who left to join Lowe’s. The company is currently undergoing an antitrust review for its proposed sale to Kroger Co. with a value of $25 billion.
Moriarity’s role in overseeing legal and regulatory functions for CVS Health was highlighted by Albertson’s. This was during the time when CVS Health secured antitrust approval for their takeover of Aetna Inc in 2019, which amounted to $70 billion. Following this victory, Moriarty received approximately $23 million in total compensation from CVS.

According to a proxy statement filed by CVS Health in April, Moriarty did not rank among the company’s five highest-paid executives last year. In January, CVS Health hired Samrat “Sam” Khichi, who previously served as a top lawyer at Becton, Dickinson & Co., as its new legal and policy chief to replace Moriarty.
The merger between Kroger and Albertson’s was significant in 2022.
