Spain: CNMC attacks ‘discriminatory’ VTC regulations in Madrid

The CNMC of Spain again attacked the municipal ordinance project for individual rental vehicles (VTC) considering that it will generate negative effects for consumers, including price increases. Instead, he urged to work on an “Integral” regulation of vehicles of this type and those that operate under Taxi rules.

The CNMC considered “discriminatory” the measures with the VTCs, promoting less restrictive alternatives to combat the most severe problems they generate, including the fight against pollution and vehicular congestion, including greater liberalization in service hours.

“The City Council should avoid being the one who plans or economically schedules the activity, since from the point of view of efficient economic regulation, except for the presence of duly accredited market failures, it implies restricting the ability to compete …”, said the agency.
