AMC Networks is reported to be in merger discussions with BBC America, a tie-up that would join two already collaborative television groups.
According to reports, the owner of AMC, SundanceTV and IFC is seeking an acquisition of 50 percent in BBC-owned BBC America, unnamed sources say. The two companies have launched joint ventures and created television series together.
Reports say the merger would give a slight majority ownership over BBC America to the BBC. The sources said BBC America would benefit from the deal in terms of advertising and distribution.
Details of the transaction were unclear, however, and one source said financial agreements have not yet been decided between the two companies.
