US: DirecTV unconvinced of AT&T takeover proposals

Days after reports first emerged that wireless giant AT&T could be looking to make its own mark in the changing communications industry with a DirecTV acquisition, the latest reports say the deal is already under way.

    DirecTV has met with advisers including Goldman Sachs to work out the acquisition and decide whether to engage in merger discussions, sources said Wednesday, though they could not confirm the exact status of the deal.

    But one source told reporters that DirecTV is not yet convinced of striking a deal with AT&T, suggesting a buyout of rival Dish Network could be more suited for the wireless operator. Dish currently owns its own wireless spectrum, whereas DirecTV does not.
