Square, Angie’s List Team Up For Mobile Payments

Square expanded to yet another area of the small merchant payment acceptance arena yesterday, announcing its partnership with consumer review service Angie’s List.

Angie’s List is a platform that allows individuals offering a service, such as plumbing, painting, landscaping or other personal tasks, to market their services, book appointments and come under review from the community at large. With around 1.7 million subscribers, the ramifications for Square figure to be significant, even if most individuals offering services don’t process a large amount of transactions.

 “Working with Square will help provide happier transactions for our members and service companies,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks in a press release. “We’re excited to work with Square because they understand what small businesses need to succeed.”

For those businesses looking to accept payments via Square, they’ll be able to do so from within the existing Angie’s List Business Center app, which allows businesses to track online purchases, create invoices and respond to consumer feedback. The app already allowed payments acceptance, but adding a major player like Square has to be viewed as a positive for those looking to use Angie’s List on either side of a transaction. 

“Whether on site or at a customer’s home, people will now have a fast, reliable way to accept payments. With Square, Angie’s List businesses can focus their time and energy on what really matters—doing great work,” said Square co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey. “We’re proud to work with Angie’s List to make life easier for businesses of all sizes.”

Angie’s List had previously announced they’d be working with Square in their October earnings report, but had not specified the exact nature of the relationship.

The Angie’s List Business Center app is currently available only for iOS.
