US: House Judiciary Committee to hold hearing on antitrust

On Tuesday, December 4,  the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial, and Antitrust Law will hold a hearing entitled, “Oversight of the Antitrust Enforcement Agencies.”  This hearing will allow Members to ask a number of questions regarding major policy aspects of antitrust enforcement, including enforcement against foreign cartels, healthcare industry consolidation, monopolies in the tech space, and calls to reevaluate the consumer welfare standard.

    House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia) issued the following statement in advance of the hearing: “Ongoing and vigilant oversight of federal agencies is a fundamental responsibility of Congress to ensure that the executive branch and its enforcement agencies are accountable to democratically elected representatives. The antitrust enforcement agencies are charged with administering, and prosecuting violations of, the antitrust laws. I am pleased to welcome representatives from the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission before the Committee next week to answer all of our questions.”
