Peru’s ad hoc prosecutor for the ‘Car Wash’ corruption case, Katherine Ampuero, announced a new, wider scope for her investigation into alleged corruption and bribery charges standing against businessmen Jorge Barata and Josef Maiman, with new preliminary investigations being extended for unfair collusion on businessmen Avraham Dan Son, Sabith Salyan and Gideon Weinstein, who are believed to have attended a 2004 meeting involving former president of Peru, Alejandro Toledo, currently on the run from bribery charges.
The prosecutor’s statement also announced they are waiting to clarify the status of Jose Graña Moró-Quesada, legal representative of Peruvian construction company Graña y Montero; Fernando Castillo Dibós, representing Ingenieros Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A.; and Fernando Camet Piccone, of JJC Contratistas.
These companies were all part of a consortium led by Brazilian giant Oderbrecht to undertake the construction of the Interoceanic Highway. Oderbrecht has admitted to paying out over $20 million USD in bribes to politicians in order to secure the massive infrastructure contract.
