Mexico: Regulators to probe Egg market

Mexico’s competition regulator, COFECE, has announced the start of an investigation on possible monopolistic practices within Mexico’s egg sector. The announcement pointed out that no specific violations or culprits have so far been identified.

    The price for eggs has climbed drastically over recent weeks, going as high as 40 pesos ($2.58USD) in some cities. The investigation will take between 30 and 120 days.

    The procedure does not presume any wrongdoing by economic actors, but seeks only to verify that the country’s recently passed Competition Law has been followed.
