Canada: Government has high hopes for spectrum auction

Canada’s spectrum auction, which was scheduled to conclude Wednesday, could raise more funds than originally anticipated, according to analysts.

    The results of the bidding are set to be announced late Wednesday, concluding a saga marked with controversy over the lack of foreign interest in the spectrum as well as last-minute withdrawals from the bidding by smaller operators.

    According to reports, those controversies lead to some pessimism among industry experts; now, however, they are changing their tune and predicting positive results for the nation largely controlled by Rogers Communications, Telus Corp and Bell Canada.
