Philippines: Think tank wants competition policy overhaul

A Philippines-based think tank has called on the nation’s legislators to overhaul competition policy in efforts to create a level playing field for all businesses. Philippine Institute for Development Studies has called on the government for the reforms to stop market dominance in a letter posted on its website. Specifically, the group said the pharmaceutical, trucking, food and ports operations industries are most susceptible to anticompetitive practices; further, that prominent politicians use their influence to unfairly manipulate markets and prevent competition bills from passing into law.
