UK: Report finds insurer excluded new hospital in Bath

A report issued by the Competition Commission has found a concerning competitive atmosphere in the town of Bath within its healthcare market. According to reports, the regulator has found that insurers refused to recognize a recently-opened private hospital, which was established three years ago to add competition to the existing hospital BMI. The hospital, Circle, issued a complaint to the Commission over the issue. After review, the watchdog found that insurer Axa was not using the hospital and thus created a major barrier to entry for Circle; similarly, Aviva, another insurance provider, did not use Circle but later added the hospital to its list.
