Canada: Consumers cheer with latest mobile phone policy change

Consumers are sure to welcome the latest wireless code of conduct, introduced by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, as the agency will do away with fees issued on consumers who terminate their contracts. Further, the communications regulator will allow consumers to cancel their wireless contracts after two years. According to the head of the CRTC, the regulatory changes, which will allow customers to change carriers even if they have entered into a contract longer than two years, will stimulate the mobile telecom market and strengthen competition as consumers will be able to re-evaluate their needs of a wireless carrier on a more frequent basis.
