US: Lead counsels chosen for Blue Cross insurance case

 |  April 24, 2013

The lead counsels have been chosen for a case accusing insurer Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, along with 38 of its licensees, of harming competition in the insurance market by colluding to divide the insurance markets among themselves. WhatleyKallas has been chosen by District Judge David Proctor to lead the insurance providers, while David Boises of Voies, Schiller & Flexner LLP and Michael Hausfeld of Hausfeld LLP will represent the subscribers. According to a report, the counsels will be “generals” for more than 200 attorneys currently involved in the case, which was consolidated to the Northern District of Alabama. According to Joe Whatley of WhatleyKallas, more than 30 lawsuits have been filed against the insurer; Whatley also suggested future cases will likely be combined with the current case.
