South Africa: Wireless association forfeits pricing fight against mobile provider

Mobile telecommunications provider Cell C has escaped a potential investigation by the nation’s Competition Commission as a telecom association has dropped its plans to lodge a complaint against Cell C with authorities. According to reports, the Wireless Applications Service Provider Association was looking to file a complaint against Cell C concerning its pricing of SMS, or text messaging rates; Cell C revised the entirety of those rates to all wireless application service providers, say reports. The Association has also alleged that Cell C disrupted the market by offering discounts to Cellfind for carrying machine-generated text traffic
