Estonia: Authorities launch probe into ‘excessive’ energy costs

Estonia’s Competition Authority has reportedly spoken out against Eesti Energia, an Estonian energy company, over what authorities call an “excessively high” general service margin. In a statement to the press, the Authority’s director general noted that because of observations of high fuel costs, the body will now initiate proceedings against Eesti Energia. The situation occurs as the nation is in its first month of an open electricity market. According to reports, the company is now charging .72 cents per kilowatt-hour of energy costs, whereas at market opening they had only charged a .15 cent markup.
