Delta Air Lines may see new business at Europe’s busiest airport if the airline succeeds in its efforts to buy 49 percent of Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., a stake that is currently owned by Singapore Airlines Ltd. Delta would expand into London’s Heathrow airport if the deal is approved by the parties involved as well as by competition authorities. Plans have only gone so far as the discussion phase between Delta and Singapore, says a source. Experts say that an expansion into Heathrow for Delta is the “only way” for the airline to make an impactful expansion into major U.S. cities like New York and Los Angeles. Jeff Straebler, an analyst who commented on the story, says that antitrust authorities would most likely approve of the plan.
