Germany asks Deutsche Post for €202 million less than Commission’s estimate

The German government is asking Deutsche Post to return € 298 million (approximately $374 million) for previously granted subsidies. The European Commission had determined in January that Deutsche Post was granted illegal state aid that allowed the mail carrier to bear significantly lower social contributions for pensions than private competitors. At the time, the Commission had estimated that Deutsche Post would have to return € 500 million to € 1 billion.

    Deutsche Post has filed an appeal against the European Commission’s ruling with the European Court of Justice.
