Makis Komninos is a Partner at the Brussels office of White & Case LLP. He has acted or been part of the defence team in a number of landmark cases before the European Courts, such as "Microsoft, Google (Shopping), Google (Android), GlaxoSmithKline, Greek lignites" and "Chalkor" and has represented clients before the European Commission, national competition authorities, national courts and arbitration tribunals. He has also been involved in complex Phase II merger clearance cases in the airline, energy and telecoms sectors. Makis was a Commissioner and Member of the Board of the Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC) between 2009 and 2011. He is currently a visiting fellow of the Centre for Law and Governance in Europe at University College London (UCL) and a member of the Executive Committee of the Global Competition Law Centre (GCLC) at the College of Europe. He holds a "summa cum laude" law degree from the University of Athens, an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College), an LL.M. from New York University, and a Ph.D. from the European University Institute. He is a member of the Brussels (E-list) and Athens Bars (Supreme Court). Makis is also a non-governmental advisor to the International Competition Network (ICN).
