Autorité de la concurrence takes bank check cashing fee case up to higher court

The Autorité de la concurrence has appealed the intermediate court’s ruling against the antitrust authority in the check handling fee case. The Autorité had fined 11 French banks in 2010–including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, and Société Génerale–a total of 385 million euros for overcharging customers for cashing checks. The banks appealed the fine, and an appeals court agreed with the banks in February 2012.
