Cofetel, Mexico’s telecommunications regulatory agency, approved rules implementing price and quality controls for dedicated lines leased by Telefonos de Mexico SAB to competitors. Telmex is the only company that Cofetel has designated as dominant in the market for dedicated lines. The agency did not specify prices to be charged for leasing the lines, but required that the quality of the lines cannot be inferior to those that the carrier or its subsidiaries provide. The rules will be effective once published in the official gazette, which is to be in a matter of days.
