Czech Republic’s competition regulators are reportedly seeking rule changes to reduce the overwhelming workload regarding public tenders, according to reports.
While the volume of public tenders has recently decreased, reports say the nation’s Office for the Protection of Competition is struggling to keep up with monitoring those contract offers to ensure they adhere to competition laws and do not allow companies to unfairly win those contracts.
The regulator’s team to fight bid-rigging and other public tender-related anticompetitive behavior is reportedly the largest unit of the authority, employing more than 200. But now the Office is struggling in the department, in part because some companies reportedly seek to benefit from delaying certain contract offers through filings at the Office.
Now, regulators are seeking rule changes that would facilitate regulatory oversight of public tender, including a policy that would set deadlines for those seeking to file a complaint related to a public tender.
