Germany: International bookseller group backs Amazon complaint

The European and International Booksellers Federation has come out in support of a recent antitrust complaint filed in Germany against Amazon, say reports.

    The group supports the German Publishers Association’s decision to approach Germany’s Federal Cartel Office accusing the online retailer of abusing its market dominance in the way it forces certain contractual conditions on publishers.

    ”Consumers are the ultimate losers when single companies abuse a dominant market position to impose unfair business conditions on providers,” the EIBF said in a statement.

    The remarks echo American Booksellers Association head Oren Teicher, who said that “it is clear that Amazon is prepared to sacrifice a diverse publishing ecosystem to achieve retail dominance.”
