Indonesia’s Regulator Sees No Monopolistic Practices by TikTok

 |  September 14, 2023

Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) head Afif Hasbullah clarified his stance to reporters on Wednesday, emphasizing that the landscape of e-commerce is inherently multifaceted.

In response to these remarks, TikTok swiftly rejected allegations made by a Jakarta government minister, who had suggested that the platform posed a threat to small businesses and overall business competition.

The country’s antitrust body, KPPU, echoed its confidence in TikTok’s operations, affirming that it perceives no wrongdoing in the platform’s activities. However, KPPU remains committed to maintaining a close watch on TikTok’s operations.

Afif elucidated, “If a company operates an e-commerce platform, offers products for sale, and provides access to payment agents and advertising, these elements are merely indicative of the broader e-commerce ecosystem.”
