Mexico: Antitrust authority casts eye on live entertainment industry

 |  May 17, 2016

Mexico’s competition authority COFECE’s investigation unit has announced it will begin reviewing the country’s Live Entertainment industry due to worries over possible monopolistic behavior in their production and promotion of live shows and concerts, as well as the administration of live spectacle venues and the distribution and automatic sale of tickets.

COFECE did not name the companies involved in the investigation, highlighting that their investigations should not be considered as prejudging the responsibility or involvement of any specific economic agent.

Should anticompetitive practices be confirmed, the companies involved will be subject to fines. The regulator has urged any persons or agents who may have been affected by anticompetitive practices to come forward.
