Netherlands: $5.4M fine for onion plant cartel

A $5.4 million fine has been levied by the Netherlands Competition Authority on seven companies that grow, process and sell planting onions for cartel behavior, according to reports. First year planting onions are planted for second year onions, which are edible. A statement from the NMa says that the companies colluded to increase the price of planting onions by decreasing supplies. According to reports, the seven businesses are responsible for about 80 percent of the supply in the Netherlands.
