Air New Zealand has just withdrawn its challenge against the nation’s Commerce Commission, originally intended to fight the regulator on a settlement deal reached to end an antitrust case accusing various airlines of price-fixing. Air New Zealand remains one of 11 airlines who have not yet settled with regulator; the case has spread worldwide and includes multinational airlines from the US and Europe accused of colluding to fix cargo prices, in some instances as far back as 2001. Air NZ’s settlement amount regarding the allegations was not disclosed, but both the watchdog and the airline are now reportedly seeking a penalty hearing. The news came in the form of a joint statement between the two bodies.
