Public consultation launched for proposed state aid rules governing Member State movie production support

 |  March 14, 2012

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the state aid criteria it proposes to use to assess Member States’ film support schemes. The 2001 Communication is currently used to assess state support for movies. The draft Communication proposes to enlarge the scope of covered activities, to limit the possibility of imposing territorial obligations on production expenditure, and to control competition between Member States to use State aid to attract inward investment from major productions.

Comments are to be received by June 14, with a final Communication to be adopted in the second half of this year.
