Russia: Court backs rejection of complaint against FAS raids

Payments chain Metro Cash & Carry received unwelcome news Thursday as a court of appeals upheld a lower court’s dismissal of the company’s complaint against Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service. The Ninth Commercial Court of Appeals backed an earlier ruling to toss the complaint, lodged against the regulator in dispute of raids issued at Metro Cash & Carry offices. The FAS raided various offices as part of an inspection to assure compliance with the nation’s antitrust laws; the company reportedly failed to provide the FAS with additional information following a request, a violation publishable by a fine under competition law.
