Russia: FAS investigating cartel in government medical suppliers

Russia’s antitrust regulator, the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS), opened an investigation into possible cartel behavior from 5 companies offering medical supplies and equipment through public sector auctions across the Russian Federation.

    The companies being investigated include Metrolife, Promezhutki, Medtorg, Infamed and Micromed. The companies are suspected of maintaining prices at auctions of cardiology products. According to the FAS, the companies colluded on at least 357 auctions from 2015 to 2017.

    The FAS stated that the “potential cartel is one of the largest scale. The amount of initial maximum prices of contracts amounted to more than 2.5 billion rubles (US$42.1 million).”
