Turkey: Reopened investigation proceeds against Turkish Airlines

After Turkey’s competition regulator was dealt a blow when its decision to drop a case against Turkish Airlines was overturned, the Competition Authority decided to reopen the case. The investigation has continued, say reports.

    Following a complaint against the airline by rival Pegasus Airlines in 2010, the Authority ruled in 2011 that there was insufficient evidence that Turkish Airlines conducted exclusionary practices; the regulator subsequently dropped the case.

    But Ankara’s 11th Administrative Court found discrepancies in the regulator’s findings, leading to a reopening of the case.

    But the probe was postponed last January for four months. Reports say the case will likely resume any day now, leading to the regulator’s final decision on the matter.

    Pegasus originally accused its rival of undercutting airfares on a competing flight route.
