US: Lawmakers want non-poaching probe of Jimmy John’s

Lawmakers are reportedly calling for an investigation into alleged non-poaching agreements initiated by sandwich chain Jimmy John’s to prevent its employees from being hired at rival companies.

    House Representatives Joseph Crowley and Linda Sanchez have drafted a letter calling on the Federal Trade Commission and the Labor Department to investigate what they describe as “disturbing reports” of the tactic. Reports have remerged that Jimmy John’s forces its hourly workers to sign non-compete clauses that bar them from working at competing businesses for a period of two years.

    While such contracts are commonplace for major corporations, lawmakers argue that these agreements look “more like bullying under color of law.”
