US: Senator lifts block on Delrahim’s confirmation

On Friday, September 22, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. Massachusetts) lifted her block on US President Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.

Makan Delrahim was nominated in March, but has met multiple delays in his confirmation process, the most recent one being Sen. Warren blocking the Senate from voting on his confirmation in August.

Sen. Warren has expressed her concerns that President Trump will attempt to influence corporate mergers and acquisitions, which was something that Trump claimed he would do while he was campaigning pre-election.

Delrahim met with the Massachusetts senator earlier this month and discussed his lobbying career and potential political influence on antitrust decisions.

With the block lifted, the Senate is now free to vote on Delrahim’s confirmation.
