Quick-service restaurant Subway recently released findings of a California mobile-ordering app pilot. And while the results are mixed, a separate effort by the franchise’s corporate office in conjunction with Paydiant could result in a nationwide rollout, reports Nation’s Restaurant News.

Following an initial test in Orange County, the app has been available throughout the state since last spring, and about 400,000 customers have downloaded it.

One store owner estimated that about 15 percent of his sales come from mobile orders, and sales overall have improved because of faster through put and improved order accuracy, according to the report.

Customers simply link their account to a credit card, watch their sandwich creation from their smartphone, and then pick up the order at a register.

Subway chose Paydiant to power its mobile app last fall, though the company has not yet said when it may roll out nationally.
