The UK’s competition watchdog is reviewing whether it may need to extend any merger cases due to coronavirus, as businesses across the UK shut down their offices.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) is monitoring the situation closely and, given the developing situation, is keeping matters under continuing review.
Across British businesses, millions of employees are being told to work from home in an effort to slow down the spread of the virus.
The government has told companies to expect as many as 20% of their staff to be off at any one time. There is thought to be as many as 10,000 Brits infected already.
As it stands, there are thought to be no current plans within the CMA to stop the clock or extend any existing merger cases, which are bound by statutory deadlines.
