US: Texas AG to announce multistate probe into Big Tech today

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said in a statement that it will announce on Monday, September 9, a multi-state probe of large tech companies, reported Reuters.

    That probe, which will be announced Monday outside the US Supreme Court, will include an investigation of Google and its sway in the digital advertising market.

    According to the Walls Street Journal, formal civil subpoenas are likely to begin going out from that effort soon. The investigation will examine Google’s impact on digital advertising and information markets, according to one of the people, as well as whether the firm has stifled innovation or harmed consumer choice and privacy.

    Paxton’s office did not name the companies, but the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission are probing Facebook, Alphabet’s Google, Apple, and Amazon for potential violations of antitrust law.
