US cable conglomerate Liberty Global said last week that it is considering the possibility that Vodafone would make a move to acquire Liberty Global’s Germany’s operations.
According to reports, Liberty Global co-Chief Financial Officer Charles Bracken told a group of attendees at an investor event in Spain that should Spain’s Vodafone make a move for the Germany unit, competition authorities would likely approve of the deal. He did not comment on whether Liberty Global would accept an offer, however.
According to reports, Vodafone and Liberty Global operate the two largest cable companies in Germany.
In the last two years Vodafone has been on somewhat of a cable acquisition spree in Europe. Reports say the company acquired Germany’s largest operator Kabel Deutschland as well as Spain’s Grupo Corporative Ono for a combined $18.6 billion.
Further, Vodafone holds a market value of about $95 billion, where Liberty Global is worth an estimated $35 billion, say reports.
