India: Transparency push changes how CCI members are chosen

Government officials are changing the way the members and chairman of the Competition Commission of India are selected, reports say.

    A selection panel will now present CCI appointments “in order of merit;” previously, the appointments were listed in no particular order. According to reports, the move was made in response to calls for greater transparency in the selection process.

    Similar changes have been made in appointing members of the Competition Appellate Tribunal as well, reports say. The changes were initiated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the administrative arm of the CCI.
