US: FTC scores food merger review

Following speculation regarding which regulator would review the planned merger between Sysco and US Foods Inc., reports say the Federal Trade Commission will review the deal.

    The transaction between the largest food distributors in the US could have been reviewed by the US Department of Justice. Sysco confirmed the FTC would handle the matter, but the authority did not comment on how the decision was reached.

    The companies first announced plans to merge last December.
