US: MN Attorney General initiates criticism over hospital merger

While a proposed merger between Sanford Health and Fairview Health, based in Minneapolis, as well as the University of Minnesota Medical Center was first introduced last summer, it was not until recent weeks that the deal first earned negative attention. Minnesota’s Attorney General ordered a public hearing on the deal, which was held last Sunday, in a deal amounting to one of the largest ever seen for Sanford. Debate was reportedly heated at the hearing where not only executives of the parties made their case for the merger, patients rallied against it in hopes to keep a state organization local. The school must authorize the deal before it can be completed.
