US: New developments in case accuse Viacom of making $1B threat to Cablevision

As the feud rages on between Cablevision Systems and Viacom in case surrounding the issue of bundling television channels and abuse of dominance, new reports have emerged that Cablevision has claimed Viacom threatened Cablevision with a $1 billion penalty if it refused to pay for low-rated channels it required to bundle with more popular ones. While the allegation was not made public until Thursday, the claims were included in court documents filed February 26. Viacom reportedly confirmed the amount in a statement. Additionally, Cablevision claims that it has lost more than $115 million every year in fees due to signing what it described as a “coercive” agreement with Viacom networks.
